Sikkim University (S.U) today held its First Meeting of Second Executive Council. University’s new executive council which consists of eminent academicians, renowned public figures and policy makers are all expected to make SU the best in the region. Congratulating the SU family, VC MP Lama said that within these 4 ½ years, university has improved a lot in every aspect with everybody’s contribution. “Decisions taken by executive body will be fruitful for the university and its students in the future”, he added. “Our long term goal is to make SU, the best institution for higher education and vital scholarly hub of the region”, VC stated. Students of the university are expected to make a huge difference to the society and will be wider in their outlook, he added. He also mentioned that two students from SU got the privilege to be in the Prime Minister’s box during Republic Day Celebrations. This is first time in the history of Sikkim that together two students has been chosen for the auspicious privilege, mentioned VC. Further he added that students are expected to contribute substantively to the nation building process.Also mentioning about the Oral History Project, he informed that such kind of flagship programmes are conducted in Sikkim for the first time. Moreover, he acquainted that the project aims in conserving Sikkim’s rich traditions and conventions. During his welcome address VC also presented university’s progress report.
Fellow Academic Dr. CB Sunwar, Librarian Dr. TK Guha, COE Dr. Suresh Gurung, Convener Admission Committee Dr. OP Gadde, Dy. Registrar C Talukdar and Provost School of Social Sciences Dr. Sebastian N presented brief reports on academic affairs, library, semester system in addition to evaluation, admissions, finance and winter sojourn respectively. During the meet, coordinators gave an account of their respective departments. Meet ended with a cultural programme put up by the university students.
