100 Football Grounds in Nagaland on Cards

Giving a major boost to sports industry of Nagaland, Nagaland Youth Resources and Sports department has received a proposal from Union Ministry for construction of 100 football grounds, including 10 indoor and outdoor stadiums in the state.

Stadiums will be constructed under the flagship programme of the Government of India ‘Khelo India’.

Khekaho Assumi, Parliamentary Secretary for Youth Resources & Sports, while announcing this said, “In this regard, DPR needs to be submitted to the ministry, subsequently the ministry will sanction the project within three months.

“All the districts will be covered judiciously under this package and each project will cost Rs 10 lakh,” he informed, “The project will improve the sports infrastructure of the state to a large extent.”

He also mentioned that the department has many other schemes, be it grant in aid or capacity building programmes, and to assist even individuals, “From this year, the government wants to conduct an All Nagaland Futsal Tournament either in Kohima or Dimapur, with each district sending two teams for the tournament. In this respect, a meeting will be convened by the first week of June.”
