In a tragic road accident, at least 11 people have been killed and three others critically injured when a Force Cruiser veered off the road near Sessa in West Kameng yesterday. Police source from Bhalukpong informed this daily that the accident occurred around 10 PM when the ill fated passenger vehicle carrying 14 was going from Bhalukpong to Nafra in West Kameng plunged into 300 meters deep gorge.

The victims are reported to be labourers, all hailing from Hawajan in Assam. Ten persons were reportedly killed on the spot and one person succumbed to his injury at PHC Bhalukpong. The three other critically injured persons were shifted to Tezpur in Assam.

Police further added that so far only three bodies have been retrieved. On January 20, four persons died on the spot while several others were seriously injured when the Tata Sumo in which they were travelling skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge near Nechiphu on Bhalukpong-Tawang road.

Meanwhile, concerned over repeated vehicle accidents occurring on Bhalukpong-Tawang road claiming several precious lives, Chief Minister Nabam Tuki has directed the district administration to take up road safety measures to contain the recurrence.
While speaking to DC Bomdila over phone, CM directed him to hold an immediate meeting with the BRO to put on safety signs in vulnerable spots besides requesting the BRO to expedite the widening process of the roads especially in low visibility areas like Sessa and Nechiphu.

While deeply mourning over the death of several people in two back to back accidents, Chief Minister announced ex-gratia of Rs 1.5 lakhs each to next of kith and kins of the deceased.
