In an effort to contain the spread of the coronavirus the Assam Government has imposed a total lockdown in Guwahati with effect from June 28 to July 12.
This came after the Kamrup District Magistrate has reported that there is a large scale spread of COVID-19 is occurring in the district.
“I have been given to understand that unless stringent measures are put in place to contain the spread of the pandemic, there may be large scale spread of incidence of COVID-19 which is likely to cause loss of human lives,” said an order issued by the Chief Secretary of Assam, Kumar Sanjay Krishna.
The Chief Secretary further directed the Commissioner of Police, City and District Magistrate, Kamrup Metropolitan District to enforce “Total Lockdown” in all areas under Kamrup Metropolitan District.
The order shall come into force with effect from 7 pm of 28 June and shall remain in force up till 6 PM of 12 July 2020.
The list of prohibitions and exceptions are as follows:
As per reports, for entire Assam, all Municipalities and town Committees will be on lockdown on Saturday and Sunday, except Kamrup Metro and other rural areas of Assam. There will be strict curfew from 7pm to 7AM all over Assam.
All flood control/ disaster management activities are exempted from lockdown.
Covid Care Centres will NOT BE CLOSED!
All ongoing critical Govt construction works shall continue.
Inter district Bus Service to be unoperational.
Addressing the press, Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, first 7 days, strict lockdown will be implemented while only pharmacy / essential services/ health institutions / laboraties will remain open. Not even grocery stores to be open. Review will be made after 7 days. Some relaxations may be considered in the second week depending on the situation.
All offices to remain closed except Secretariat and Directorates, which will operate with skeletal staff.
Bank with skeletal staff will be open.
