Arunachal Pradesh: Blazing Sword Division to unfurl the National Flag at Gorichen Base near LAC on Independence Day

In a first-of-its-kind event, the Blazing Sword Division at Missamari has organized a 40 members Joint Trekking Expedition with Personnel from Indian Army, ITBP, HAWAS and local youths from East Kameng District of Arunachal Pradesh to commemorate the 73rd Independence Day at Gorichen Base & Chokersham Lake, a pristine area close to Indo-China LAC at an altitude of 16400 feet.

The expedition which has been undertaken on August 5 will culminate on August 20. “The total expedition trek of 150 km of distance from Jang to Grichen Base and back across the arduous mountain valleys and treacherous heights ranging from 11000 feet to over 16000 feet will be completed in 16 days from 5th to 20th of August by the expedition team,” a press statement issued by the Division reads.

During the expedition the team will remain self contained for the entire duration and ensure eco-friendly measures, thus encouraging conservation of the pristine environment. The National Flag will be unfurled on the 73rd Independence Day by the expedition members at an altitude of 16400 feet close to the Line of Actual Control on 15 August.

“The Indian Armed forces have a rich saga of fostering the spirit of adventure by undertaking varied adventure activities. This Joint Trekking Expedition will further develop team spirit, camaraderie and character building among the troops and local youths of the far flung areas of the border state of Arunachal Pradesh. It will further promote eco- friendly tourism avenues and boost local tourism in the state of Arunachal Pradesh, which has been identified as the focus area by the Eastern Commander and Gajaraj Corps Cdr in consultation with the State Government of Arunachal Pradesh,”  stated the press brief.
