Prime Accused in JEE (Main) Scam, Bhargav Deka Arrested

Guwahati police on Sunday arrested one Bhargav Deka, owner of city-based consultancy firm Global Edulite in the case related to use of a proxy candidate in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Mains 2020.

Deka was arrested by the police as he landed at Guwahati Airport, Borjhar.

According to reports, Deka fled to Bangkok after the police started an investigation into the case.

“Till now, we have no information about the proxy candidate. The picture will become clear only after the arrest of Bhargav Deka,” Assistant Commissioner of Police (Azara) Nandini Kakoti said.

A case (No 624/2020) was registered in Azara PS under sections 120(b)/419/420/406 IPC r/w 66D IT Act after an FIR was lodged stating that a student from Assam topped JEE Mains 2020 using a proxy to sit in the exam on his behalf.
