A 1300 years old Hindu temple has been discovered at a mountain in Northwest Pakistan. The discovery was done by a team of Pakistani and Italian archaeological experts during an excavation at Barikot Gundai.
The discovery was announced on Thursday. Reportedly, Fazle Khaliq of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Department of Archaeology said that the temple discovered is of Lord Vishnu. The archaeologists also found traces of cantonment and watchtowers near the temple site.
Along with that the experts also discovered a water tank near the temple site which the believed was used by the Hindus for bathing before worshiping in the temple.
According to the experts, the particular district believed to be the home of a thousand year old achaeological sites. That is also the site where traces of Hindu Shahi period was found for the first time in that area.
