AMU one of India’s oldest varsity will be celebrating 100 years of the university.

As per reports, PM Modi will be accompanied by Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank. This is the first time PM Modi will participate in a programme of the Aligarh Muslim University. The event will be held online due to COVID-19.

It needs to be mentioned here that this is the first time that PM Modi will participate in a programme of the AMU. Moreover, the last time a sitting prime minister visited the varsity to attend an event was in 1964, when the then PM Lal Bahadur Shastri delivered the convocation address there.

The vice chancellor of the University thanked PM Modi and the education minister for accepting to attend the celebration.

As reported in The Indian Express, AMU on Wednesday appealed to the institution’s fraternity, including students, to keep its centenary programme “above politics” as it announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had accepted an invitation to address the centenary celebrations on December 22.

In a letter to the “staff, students and other members of the AMU fraternity”, Vice-Chancellor Tariq Mansoor appealed to “all concerned to keep centenary programme above politics, just as we keep Republic Day, Independence Day, Milad un Nabi, Gandhi Jayanti above differences”.
