In yet another success in its crusade against smuggling activities, Serchhip Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles, under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), recovered leopard tortoise 19, red footed tortoise-38, yellow, orange, green iguana-17, Bearded Dragon -03,albino iguana-03, exotic seeds & fertilizer, 31 in general area Friendship Bridge along the Tyao River in Mizoram on Thursday.

The operation was carried out by a joint team of Assam Rifles, and Customs Department, Zokhawthar based on specific information.

Individual alongwith seized illegal consignment was handed over to Customs Department, Zokhawthar for further legal proceedings. Market Value  Will be intimated by Custom dept in consultation with Zoo Range offr at Aizwal.

Ongoing Smuggling of wildlife is a major cause of concern for the state of Mizoram. Assam Rifles, rightly christened as the ‘Sentinels of Northeast’ have been successful in launching such operations against the Wildlife Trafficking activities in Mizoram.
