Suspended Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Dipanjali Kakati has been arrested in Tinsukia from her residence on charges of assaulting a police official.
According to CCTV footage, Dipanjali Kakati physically assaulted a police officer on duty inside Kakopathar Police Station after the police officer refused to set free a culprit who was brought to the police station for questioning.
Further, the BJP leader has been booked under Section 332 of the IPC, a non-bailable offence.
Reportedly, Dipanjali physically assaulted Apurba Das, a sub-inspector of the Kakopathar Police Station.
According to reports, Deepanjali Kakoty Moran, an executive member of State BJP and resident of Dirak Powai, engaged in altercation with sub-inspector Aupurba Das over the release of her driver Srikanta Phukan of Dirak Amguri who was wanted by police in connection with assault on a woman.
