A PhD scholar of the varsity has accused an Assistant Professor of sexual harassment.

The accused professor has been identified as Ram Bhawan Yadav of the English Department.

The victim has filed a complaint with the University authorities.

According to the victim, the accused professor – Ram Bhawan Yadav had sexually harassed her by making false promises of marrying her.

The victim’s complaint is being looked into by the Internal Complaint Committee of Sikkim University.

Sikkim University has a zero-tolerance policy against sexual harassment and is committed to upholding the Constitutional mandate to combat sexual harassment. It strongly supports gender equality and opposes any form of gender discrimination, sexual harassment and gender violence.

As per the provisions of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, an Internal Complaints Committee has been constituted to act as Inquiry Authority on a complaint of sexual harassment and to take proactive measures towards sensitization of the students, staff and faculty members on gender issues.
