The nomination paper of Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP)’s Mariani candidate Alok Kumar Ghose was cancelled on Wednesday.
The nomination paper was cancelled as it was found to be incomplete for a second time. Ghose was asked to submit his documents a second time as it was found to be incomplete the first time well.
The declaration was made by Ashim Buragohain, returning officer of 101 Mariani Legislative Assembly constituency.
Ghose, a former MLA, was considered to be a strong candidate from Mariani who is a popular face in the constituency.
It may be mentioned here that Ghose made headlines during the COVID-19-induced nationwide lockdown when he provided ration to hundreds of poor who were severely affected by the lockdown.
For this generous nature, he was called “Raja Harischanda” by the people.
Apart from Mariani, Ghose provided relief materials including rice, pulses, wheat, vegetables, mustard oil, biscuits etc to other parts of the Jorhat district as well.
Ghose is the president of the Mariani Development Committee, a registered NGO with wings in some districts
The NGO also has some ambulances which extend the service to people free of cost.
