Hojai MLA Shiladitya Dev, who resigned from the party earlier this week after he was denied an election ticket at the ensuing polls, returned to the party fold on Saturday.

The announcement comes a day after Assam finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and BJP national secretary Dilip Saikia met Dev at his residence on Friday.

After resigning from the party Dev also announced that he will contest the election as an independent candidate. However, on Saturday he declared that he would sit out this three-phase election.

He further said that he belongs to the BJP by heart and soul and at no cost can he allow Congress to win as this will “lead to AIUDF dominance as both parties are in alliance”.

“I cannot let the Congress-AIUDF alliance win and dominate. Hence I have decided to stay along with the BJP- which is my party,” Dev said.

It may be mentioned here that Shiladitya Dev is among the 12 BJP MLAs who were denied tickets this time.

The election in Assam will begin on March 27. The results will be out on May 2.
