Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) commissioner Devajyoti Hazarika has been appointed as the General Observer of the Assembly elections in all the 5 states – Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Puduchery and Kerala by the Election Commission of India (ECI).

Hazarika is an Assam-Meghalaya cadre IAS officer and he has been appointed as the General Observer for elections in 5 States under Article 324 of the Constitution of India.

The order of appointment of Devajyoti Hazarika as General Observer was issued on Wednesday.

As General Observer, Devajyoti Hazarika will be subject to control, superintending and discipline of the Election Commission.

Assembly Elections to 5 states – Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala are slated to be held from March 27.

Counting for all the five states would be held on May 2.
