The BJP finds itself in deep waters at the 121 Chabua assembly constituency in the Tinsukia district after the party decided to rest its current MLA and leave it for its ally AGP.
After the BJP decided to not field Binod Hazarika from Chabua, several BJP workers and Hazarika’s supporters have revolted against the party’s decision and said that they are not willing to support AGP’s Ponakon Baruah.
“We had already chalked out plans for the elections and we had intended to make Hazarika victorious by a massive margin. However, BJP’s denial to give him a ticket has miffed us,” said a few of Hazarika’s supporters.
They further alleged that neither the AGP nor the top brass of BJP had discussed anything with the grassroots BJP workers and Hazarika’s supporters regarding the fielding of AGP candidate from the constituency.
“We were not prepared for it and the sudden announcement has shocked us completely,” Hazarika’s supporters further said.
“Fielding AGP candidate from Chabua may backfire on the BJP-led alliance and the opposition parties may have the last laugh,” said Surajit Bora, a resident of Tinsukia town.
“Hazarika has a big hold in the constituency. Hope the BJP won’t have to lament its decision at the end,” he added.
