The 61 no Dharmapur assembly constituency of Nalbari district is considered as an important Legislative Assembly Constituency of Assam and a three-cornered fight among Bharatiya Janata Party( BJP), Congress and Asom Jatiya Parishad(AJP) is expected here.
The constituency has 1,40,486 voters and polling will take place here on April 6.
Assam industry minister Chandra Mohan Patowary defeated former Congress MLA Nilamani Sen Deka in a direct fight in 2016.
However, this time it isn’t going to be easy for Patowary as Congress’ Ratul Patowari and AJP’s Dr Sikhar Kumar Sarma are expected to make inroads into the minds of the voters.
However, what has been interesting in the constituency is not the top three candidates or their election campaigns- the interesting has been the campaigning of former BJP leader Jyotirmoy Sarma- who is contesting the polls as an independent candidate after he was denied an election ticket by the BJP.
Instead of holding rallies and meetings, Sarma has been visiting every household of the constituency and has been promoting his agenda.
“Use your conscience while voting and don’t fall in the trap of lies,” Sarma has been saying to everyone.
Employment to the unemployed, development of micro industries, schemes for the weavers and farmers etc. are the issues on which Sarma has been focussing at.
It is worth mentioning here that the young educated youths and the conscious people of the greater Kaithalkuchi area are not happy with the development carried out by Chandra Mohan Patowary.
They have alleged that all the roads leading to Kaithalkuchi have been in a dilapidated state.
” Kaithakuchi has been far from development. The youngsters are also lacking a suitable playground,” said Binod Barman, a local.
