Ten numbers of traditional potters of Tawang are being trained by Khadi Village Industries Commission(KVIC) NEZ under KUMHAR SASHAKTI KARAN programme. The ten days long Skill up-gradation training programme is being conducted at District Industries centre Tawang and being sponsored by KVIC NEZ.

While inaugurating the training programme this morning DC Tawang Sang Phuntsok, conveyed his gratitude to senior citizen and the only traditional potter of Tawang Lham Tsering of Yuisum village for preserving and continuing the art of Traditional pot making an ancient tradition of monpa culture. He further appealed to the unemployed youths to come forward and learn this art of traditional pot making, we are unable to fulfill the demands of the traditional pot, and by learning this traditional art youths can self employ themselves. District Administration Tawang has recently started a Sunday market to promote local products, and traditional pots for sale on its inaugural day were the first local products that were sold to its last stock within no time he added. He also informed the villagers, about the benefits of the earthen pot to health, and the best being environmentally friendly.

DC further requested the Master Trainer Manjit Baruah, provided by KVIC NEZ to share his knowledge of Assamese traditional pot making with local trainees of Tawang.

Chano Lowang, ADTH Tawang, Tsering Drema I/C DDI Tawang, other officers and officials of Industries and Textile Handicraft Department Tawang were also present during the inaugural session of the training program besides trainees.
