The Congress-led grand alliance will reach the majority mark from the results of the first two phases of the general election to the Assam Legislative Assembly.

In the 126-member Assam Assembly, the majority mark is 64. Polling for the first and second phase of the election was respectively held on March 27 and April 1.

Addressing the media on Thursday, AICC spokesperson Gourav Vallabh said that the party is confident of forming the government as “people have responded” to their “positive campaign”.

“The Congress-led grand alliance is on track to win 101 seats in total,” he said.

“With nearly 80 per cent polling in the first phase, the Congress is sweeping Upper Assam. Also, the information we are getting today, we will cross the majority mark after the second phase itself,” Vallabh added.

In the first phase, polling was held in 47 constituencies and the second phase, polling took place in 39 constituencies.

The third phase of the election will be held on April 6 and the result will be declared on May 2.
