Assam State Finance and Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in a tweet said that the Election Commission of India has barred him from campaigning for the next 48 hours.
In a tweet, the minister wrote, “I am asked by ECI to stop campaigning for next 48 hours. Therefore all my meetings scheduled for tomorrow stand cancelled.”

The ECI directive is in response to a complaint lodged by Congress saying that Sarma during a campaign rally had ‘threatened’ BPF leader Hagrama Mohilary and also spoke about using the NIA to investigate him. BPF is an ally of the Congress-led Grand Alliance or Mahajot.
Notably, Himanta Biswa will contest from the Jalukbari constituency in the last league of the Assam Assembly Election 2021.
