With just a few hours left for the third and final phase of polls in Assam to begin, residents of localities under the Guwahati West constituency has alleged that the incumbent MLA, AGP’s Ramendra Narayan Kalita, has done nothing much for the development of the areas.
The allegation has been brought up by the residents of Santipur Hillside and Bhootnath areas.
“Ramendra Narayan Kalita has not initiated any developmental step in our areas in the past five years,” Dainik Assam reported quoting a few locals.
“He has not even tried to know and assess our issues and problems,” they further said.
“We have informed him about our problems on several occasions and in these five years all he gave us was assurances after assurances without result,” they added.
“PNGB Road is the main road in Durgasarobar, Santipur and Lower Kamakhya localities of Santipur Hillside area. This road was constructed during the Congress regime. However, there are no facilities for sewage and drainage system on either side of the road, which results in artificial flooding after an hour’s rain,” they informed.
“Moreover, the bye-lanes are also in dilapidated condition and he has not taken any step for their repair. The people of the area have collected money and constructed PNGB By-lane 1 on their own,” they informed.
They further alleged that drinking water is scarce in the areas and the water supplied by the Guwahati Municipal Corporation isn’t enough and they are forced to buy drinking water every day.
They also alleged that there is a dearth of streetlights in both these areas, which makes the evenings dangerous.
“Several incidents of chain snatching, mobile snatching, eve-teasing have been reported from these areas. Even after urging the MLA to install streetlights in the area, he has done nothing except giving us assurances,” they further said.
They further informed that Kalita did not go for campaigning in these areas this time.
