Red Alert has been sounded in East Khasi Hills especially in Shillong after explosions rocked Khlieriat.

According to police reports on an intervening night between 13th and 14th of July an IED blast took place in the residential area of Khleiriat Police Reserve.

Police have claimed that the insurgents took the opportunity provided by the downpour and darkness and exploded the IED.

Reportedly HNLC has claimed responsibility for the incident which allegedly informed the management of the Star Cement, MLAs, and a few other individuals.

Active checking of vehicles and interrogation was seen taking place in the city round the clock. Checking points were set up by police in different areas of the city on 14th July 2021 at around 11:00 pm.

Police said it was “due to the blast which took place in Khlierait and also the tension in Nongmensong area”. An unruly mob had surrounded the police station at Nongmensong and pelted stones at the CRPF and police personnel stationed there.

The checkpoints were seen on the road which leads to Laban, Motphran, and few other junctions of the city.
