A 70-year-old man, Chitranjan Chakraborty was crushed to death by a wild elephant at Durgabari in the Tinsukia district of upper Assam in the early morning on Wednesday.
During his morning walk, the person was attacked by a wild elephant who had strayed into human habitation.
Later he was taken to a local hospital where he was declared dead.
After the incident, forest personnel rushed to the site of the incident and conducted necessary formalities, and prepared a detailed report. The forest officials said that a compensation of 4 lacs will be given to the family because of the incident.
Residents have speculated that the elephant has come out of the jungle in search of food when the unfortunate man was confronted by the giant pachyderm.
