Norway Foreign Ministry Summons Chinese Ambassador Over Cyber Attack Against Parliament

Ine Eriksen Soreide, Norway’s Foreign Minister, announced that the ministry has summoned Chinese ambassador in connection with an alleged Information Technology (IT) attack on the country’s Parliament.

Norwegian Parliament, also termed as the Storting informed on the breach of it’s email systems.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the attack exploited the Microsoft Exchange software.

“All cyber operations leave a variety of traces, which are analysed and compiled by our security services, among others. And based on this information, the government concluded that the attack originated in China.” – stated by the Norwegian Foreign Minister Ine Eriksen Soreide.

On Monday July 19, the US and other Western countries such as – European Union (EU), UK, New Zealand and Australia, accused China of hacking Microsoft Exchange – a popular email platform used by companies worldwide.

According to BBC report, the hack affected at least 30,000 corporate organizations or businesses.
