Manipur : Two Candidates Crack UPSC Combined-Geo Scientist Exams 2020 In First Attempt, AIR 67 & 68

Recently, two candidates from Ukhrul district, Manipur has managed to crack the famed Combined-Geo Scientist Exam 2020 in first attempt, thereby attaining the All India Rank (AIR) 67 & 68.

Conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), the results of the exam were announced on Friday, July 31.

Identified as Nganaomi Khangrah, and Mirinsing Angkang, both the candidates pursued their Master of Science (M.SC) in Applied Geology from the Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines) IIT (ISM), Dhanbad. Both the boys were fellow roommates too.

The 24-yr-old Nganaomi Khangrah is the son of Tuisem Khangrah of Sihai Khullen.

While, the 25-yr-old Mirinsing Angkang is the son of Ramyo Angkang of Sinakeithel village.

Nganaomi is an ardent follower of football, who loves to play the sport during his leisure time.

He did his schooling from Savio School Ukhrul, and pursued 12th standard from Herbert school Imphal.

Nganaomi later completed his graduation from Hansraj College with Bachelors in Science (B.Sc) Honors in Geology.

Born and raised up in a joint family with seven siblings, Nganaomi struggled through the hardships faced by his parents, due to limited income.

“Being hard pressed, I went on to stay at my uncle Shangreiyo Khangarah’s place right from kindergarten. I’m thankful and indebted to my aunt and uncle, besides my parents, who not only placed me where I am today but for providing me their unstinted love, care and education. I am truly blessed to have them all in my life,” – Nganaomi quoted during an interview with Ukhrul Times.

Nganaomi, who secured AIR 67, asserts that dreams can be attained through hard work and determination.

Meanwhile, Mirinsing Angkang lost his mother, in childhood says, “I am happy and relieved. It was a huge relief as the exam has been postponing for months because of covid.”

He further states on the role played by his dotting father. “My father has been my backbone all through this life; family and friends always supported me financially, morally and spiritually.” – he says.

Born and raised at Sinakeithel village, Mirinsing did his schooling from Chingshang Private School, Ukhrul.

Later, he pursued his Pre-University (PU) courses from Sacred Heart Higher Secondary School, Ukhrul.

Mirinsing pursued his graduation from Dhanamanjuri (DM) College Imphal, securing 4th rank.

After completion, he sat for the IIT entrance examination at Dhanbad and pursued M.Sc in Applied Geology for three years before appearing for the UPSC Geo-Scientist exam.
