Sikkim : Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Department Distributed 20 Cows To Chongrang Block Under Livestock Insurance

Recently, as many as 20 milching cows were distributed to beneficiaries of Chongrang block under Yaksum Tashiding constituency.

Organized under the project ‘Distribution of milching cows to supplement farmers income under NEC Fund 2020-21’, the event was jointly organised by the Office of District Collector, West (DC) and Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services.

Dr N.M Cintury Additional Director, Department of AH&VS informed about the various features of this project, meant exclusively for Chongrang block under the Aspirational district program.

He exhorted the beneficiaries to take proper care of the cows and adopt scientific rearing methods thereby increasing the milk production and taking maximum benefit of the incentive on milk provided by the Government.

Furthermore, the cows will be covered under livestock insurance for a period of three years.

The beneficiaries will attain an incentive of Rs 3600/- to procure vitamins and mineral supplements will be credited to the accounts of the beneficiaries through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

He also explained about the salient features of the ‘Piggery incentive scheme’ under which – exhaustive survey of pig farmers fulfilling the criteria has already started in the entire state.

It will be launched officially by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim soon.

The event also focused upon topics like – sanitation and housing, disease prevention and control, vaccination, insurance, common local diseases in livestock and their remedial measures, Integrated Sample Survey, National Animal Disease Control Programme (NADCP), etc.
