West Jaintia Hills Shuts Down Markets As Covid Cases Increase

The West Jaintia Hills district administration has ordered the closure of six marketplaces due to an alarming increase in the cases of Covid-19.

In an order published on August 1, the district magistrate of West Jaintia Hills, informed, “There is an increase in the number of current cases with a positive rate of 15% for the period July 22-28, 2021 and a high fatality rate.”

“There is a need to put in place tougher containment measures to control the spread of the virus,” the district magistrate said in such a case.

As a result, in partial modification of Paragraph B Sl. No. 2 of this Office Order No. GEN.253/ COV1D-19/2021/136, Dt. 31.07.2021, the following is hereby ordered: Iaw Mmusiang, Iaw Chyiap (JPC Market), Iaw Chor (CNI Market), Iawthymme, Ladthalaboh, and Sein Raij Markets will be closed starting at midnight on August 2nd, 2021 until additional orders are received.
