Recently, the Manipur security forces have arrested an individual for cheating residents, with the assurance to provide benefit of Chief Minister’s COVID-19 Affected Livelihood Support Scheme.
Identified as Moirangthem Jelen Singh (44), the accused collected an amount worth Rs 300-400 from applicants, with an assurance of been short-listed for the scheme.
According to reports, the police have taken up necessary steps to produce Jelen before the Court and to examine the witnesses of the case.
The scheme aims to provide direct transfer of ₹5,000 in two equal instalments ( ₹2,500 per instalment) to every identified family whose livelihood has been directly affected by COVID-19.
Eligible occupations for availing the scheme includes – street vendors, farmers, daily wage workers, construction site workers, public transport drivers, school van drivers, shop assistants, artisans, weavers, performing artists, home-based business, etc.
Run under the Manipur Social Welfare Department, the scheme will avail benefit to only one beneficiary per family.
