Seven Arunachalee Youths Climb Mt Kun In Kashmir On Kargil Vijay Divas

The National Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports (NIMAS) based in Dirang, Arunachal Pradesh recently conducted a mountaineering expedition to Mt Nun-Kun Massif and successfully scaled Mt Kun 7077M on 26/27 July, on the eve of Kargil Vijay Diwas.

The summiteers included nine army personnel and seven local youths of Arunachal Pradesh sponsored by the state Tourism department.

The seven from Arunachal were Dorjee Khandu, Tosap Rime, Tashi Marakpa, Tsering Tashi, Lhakpa Tsering, Tenzin Dawa and Lhondup.

The seven thousand meters high technically challenging peak is located in Suru valley, Zanskar ranges. The team led by experienced mountaineer Col Sarfraz Singh, Director NIMAS was successful in putting a record total of 16 climbers on top of Mt Kun.

The highly skilled team proved their mettle on the mountain by opening the entire route on their own without taking any help from Sherpas and guides.

The national institute of mountaineering and Allied Sports (NIMAS)  located at Dirang, Arunachal Pradesh has added numerous feathers to its cap in the recent past by conducting more than 10 mountaineering expeditions to Major peaks in India and Nepal.

The expedition was also in line with the ‘Fit India movement’ that tried to inculcate the spirit of courage and adventure in the future mountaineers of the nation.
