Deputy Commissioner Kolasib, Dr.H.Lalthlangliana has issued an appeal to the people of Mizoram to not visit the Assam Mizoram interstate border area where there is a deployment of police forces.
The appeal was made after an incident that took place at Aitlang around 2 AM of August 17, when three Mizo civilians, two women, and a man, were shot at by Assam Police when they were en route to meet a person with an alias ‘Nibas’. Allegedly Nibas, a resident of Bilaipur, had invited them over for a courtesy meeting.
One of the civilians, a woman named Lalduhawmi of Hall Veng was injured when she fled the scene and fell down a cliff.
Dr.H.Lalthlangliana reported the incident to the Hailakandi DC lodging a protest against Assam Police opening fire on the civilians. He also requested the Hailakandi DC to take stern action against the person named Nibas, of Bilaspur for luring the 3 Mizo civilians near the Police duty post, thus endangering their lives.
Following this morning’s incident, Kolasib DC has reiterated to the public to avoid visiting the border areas and to also avoid spreading false news, which may further aggravate tensions in these areas.
