Nagaland : Postal Department Releases Special Cover On ‘Chakhesang Shawl’

Recently, the Postal Department has released a special cover of Chakhesang Shawl, a Geographical Indication (GI) at the office of Postmaster General in Dimapur.

The Postmaster general of Northeast-II Region, Som Kamei during the event had also approved traditional products of Nagaland.

While addressing the ceremony, Kamei added that special cover release was usually done to signify an important event or milestone of any important organization or highlight and bring focus on that particular event or product.

Stressing on the importance of GI tag, Kamei asserted the tag, a significant icon to  provide legal protection, thereby acting as a shield from unauthorised users.

He further stated that North East Postal Circle has taken the initiative to release special covers on various GI products of North East.

Copies of special covers would be sold all over India and a copy of it would be put on display in the Philatelic Museum in New Delhi, thereby highlighting its GI association with Nagaland, Kamei informed.

He also expressed his gratitude to the Chakhesang Women Welfare Society (CWWS) for agreeing to release the special cover.

Meanwhile, L Imtikumzuk informed that a total number of 2000 special covers were printed and there would be no other print edition.
