Union Rural Development Minister, Giriraj Singh, during his visit to Tripura, said that the role of women in the development of the rural economy is immense and only women can accelerate its pace.
During an exchange of views with representatives of various self-help groups in Sepahijala district on the 29th of August 2021, Singh said that the development of a state is not possible without improving the village. With the development of the state through village swaraj, the country will progress. He stressed that in the development of the rural economy, it is necessary to move forward based on agriculture and related sectors.
He also emphasized increasing crop production by using scientific methods in agriculture and applying organic fertilizers without using chemical fertilizers.
The Union Rural Development Minister inspected various development programs implemented by the state and central government projects in the Sepahijala district. He first visited the lemon, guava, and mango orchards in Gakulnagar Gram Panchayat of the Bishalgarh sub-division and talked to the officials of the forest department. A program is being undertaken for the beautification of the national highway.
The Union Minister then toured the Dragon Fruit Orchard set up by the Department of Horticulture and Land Conservation along with the National Highway in the district and spoke to the beneficiaries.
The Union Minister for Rural Development also visited the Border Area Development Project at East Gakulnagar in the district and the Community Eco Park at East Gakulnagar. It may be mentioned that this park has been constructed in 2019 by spending Rs 55.08 lakh. He visited the eco-park constructed by the forest department and praised the officials of the forest department.
There Giriraj Singh exchanged views with members of the self-help groups. He advised the members of the self-help groups to rear cows, goats, and roosters in every household
He said the Prime Minister of the country has attached importance to the development of the North East including Tripura. The central government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is committed to improving the socio-economic status of the region. The Union Minister for Rural Development expressed satisfaction over the development program implemented under the leadership of Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and highly praised the Chief Minister.
In the visit, the union minister was accompanied by MLAs Birendra Kishore Debbarma and Subhash Chandra Das, Sahakari Sabhadhipati of Sepahijala Zilla Parishad Pintu Ich, Secretary of Rural Development department Soumya Gupta, Secretary Kiran Gitte, Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare secretary C K Jamatia, DM Visheswari B, Additional DM Subhashish Bandopadhyay, Additional Secretary TK Debnath, Superintendent of Police Krishnendu Chakraborty, Director of Horticulture Department Fani Bhushan Jamatia and other senior officials.
