Recently, the Manipur Education Minister, S. Rajen Singh has announced the distribution of free mobile phones to students of classes 11 and 12.

Initiated under the “Chief Minister’s e-Support Scheme”, the phones will be handed over to students belonging to the category of Below Poverty Line (BPL).

According to Singh, this decision has been undertaken to support BLP students, facing inconveniences due to unavailability of mobile phones to attend online classes.

Under the scheme, 2,000 phones have already been distributed among students who study in 45 government colleges.

The beneficiaries from classes 11 and 12 will be selected by the school authorities, added the minster.
