Recently, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a supplementary chargesheet against United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) commander-in-chief Paresh Baruah and four other cadres of the separatist organization, in connection with Guwahati June 29, 2019 grenade attack near RG Baruah stretch.
This major development comes during a time when speculation of peace talks between ULFA-I and Assam Government is doing rounds.
The charge sheet was filed on Tuesday at the NIA Special Court in Guwahati against Baruah, Pappu Koch Bokoliyal, Amrit Ballav Goswami, Arunodoy Dahotiya and Munna Baruah, an NIA release issued on Wednesday said.
“The case relates to incident of two ULFA (I) cadres lobbing a grenade at a police party near Central Mall, RGB Road, Guwahati which led to injuries to 12 persons. Later, Paresh Baruah, self-styled commander-in-chief of ULFA (I) took responsibility for the terrorist attack,” the release further added.
Accordingly, NIA re-registered the case and took over the investigation and filed a charge sheet against eight accused.
During its further investigation, the investigation agency gathered additional evidences against the accused, and filed the supplementary charge sheet for their role in recruitment of ULFA (I) cadres, added an NIA official.
