Recently, in a major operation against drug menace, a joint team of Assam Rifles armed forces deployed in Mizoram along with Custom Department has successfully retrieved around 15 cases of foreign cigarettes from the Indo-Myanmar border.
Acting on specific units, a joint operation was carried out by the Serchhip Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) along with the customs department near the India-Myanmar border.
According to HQ IGAR (East), the market value of the retrieved foreign cigarettes is termed to be Rs 19.50 lakhs.
These illegal items were seized by the customs department for further legal proceedings, added the Inspector General.
