Nagaland : Zunheboto Planning Board Reviews Ways To Tackle Looper Attack On Corn Cultivation

Recently, the Zunheboto District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) organized its monthly meeting to review the progress on agricultural sector and inspect the work pace of several projects headed by National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL) across the district.

Held at Sumi Hoho conference hall, the meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Peter Lichamo; Agriculture and Cooperation Minister G Kaito Aye; Advisor to School Education and Chairman Zunheboto DPDB, K.T. Sukhalu; and Advisor to Food and Civil Supply, LMCP and Taxes, Pukhayi Assumi.

The DPDB Chairman requested the Agriculture Minister to provide necessary help to the farmers especially the corn crops cultivators.

He further added that such cultivators require support, as their entire crops were destroyed this year due to pests.

These farmers have been asked to send the destroyed crop photos to the department for further compilation and forwarding it to government.

Minister G Kaito Aye in his speech asked the departments, especially agriculture and allied sector to keep in touch with the farmers, understand their problems and bring it to forefront.

He asserted to further apprised the government to look into the problems of the farmers and provide support through modern technology agricultural equipments.

Kaito also directed the departments to submit their developmental activities in the next meeting while directing all heads of departments to be present in the house.

Meanwhile, in response to MLAs and various NGOs expressing their displeasure over the slow pace work of the NHIDCL, the General Manager of the Corporation assured to complete the work in time and try their best to provide quality work with public support.

According to DIPR report, concerned authorities have asked the company to expedite all projects, thereby keeping in mind about providing quality work.

However, NHIDCL have also expressed their problems including the high demands of land compensation.

The General Manager also requested the concerned authorities for further support, to overcome further obstacles for work completion during the specified time period.

The Public Works (Roads & Buildings) Department also presented various departmental activities related to ongoing bridges and roads, and several problems caused by the following.

Further, the department have also shared issues, such as : non-payment of salaries for almost half of labourers under Zunheboto division for over two years.

The Medical Department have also shared on present COVID-19 status across the district and state.

Till now 49,237 people has been vaccinated taking the figure to around 65%, while, 13 villages has been declared as fully vaccinated, the department further stated.
