Sikkim : ‘Solid Waste Management’ Programme To Commence From Sep 26

In a major breakthrough to commemorate 75 years of progressive India, named as “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”, the Mangan Nagar Panchayat (MNP) has decided to tackle solid waste management issue by organizing a week-long programme, commencing from September 26, 2021.

The decision was taken on a meeting held at Conference hall, MNP under Municipal Executive Officer (MEO) Tempo Tashi Bhutia along with the Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs), Self Help Groups (SHGs), Councillor and Individual Entrepreneurs under MNP.

Bhutia emphasized on the role of community participation in managing the Solid waste.

He further mentioned that any individual can contribute as local motivator by inspiring each and everyone.

This participation from the residents can successfully transform Mangan ULB as one of the models in the Sikkim.

Meanwhile, the meeting decided to organize mass door-to-door awareness on waste segregation, and Plogging.

The week-long programme will also include exhibition on plastic waste products.

Besides, field trip for the students and Public at waste processing plants will also be conducted on September 30, 2021.

The meeting also informed that Swachhata app has also been created to register complaints regarding littering, garbage issues, etc.
