Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Monday emphasized boosting the socio-economic development of the OBCs across the state by focusing on the cultivation of ‘Agar’ trees.
He also directed the officials of the Fisheries department to enhance fish production through the Biofloc method and cage culture, and fish farmers should be made accustomed to fish farming in a scientific manner with proper training.
The Tripura Chief Minister was reviewing various developmental activities of six departments vis-a-vis OBC Welfare, Minority Welfare, Cooperatives, Fisheries, Handloom and Handicrafts, and Silk Industry in presence of respective ministers Ram Prasad Paul and Mevar Kumar Jamatia, Chief Secretary Kumar Alok along with higher officials at Civil Secretariat here in Agartala.
Reviewing the work of the OBC Welfare department in the meeting, the Chief Minister advised the concerned department to be more proactive in reforming other areas related to hostels including infrastructural development of government dormitories in the state.
He said dormitories need to be inspected every three months. Besides, the Chief Minister has emphasized inspection of dormitories run by private schools. He directed the concerned department to take the necessary steps to take up housing projects in or around Agartala city for the convenience of OBC students.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister mentioned that special emphasis would be laid on ‘Agar’ cultivation including primary field in the training program imparted through Skill Development for the economic development of OBC people.
Chief Minister said that the fish production should be further enhanced through proper implementation of the schemes adopted by the government for the welfare of the fish farmers of the state. Therefore, he advised the concerned department to work with specific targets. He advised the department to promote Mission Mood to encourage people interested in fish farming.
He directed the secretary of the Fisheries Department to take necessary steps to make Sukhsagar water in the Gomati district of Tripura suitable for fish farming. He said there are huge fish farming opportunities in the area.
