Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb unveiled the ‘Tripura Agar Policy 2021’ at the Buyer-Seller Meet on the Agarwood Products of Tripura in Agartala on Tuesday.

To build an economically viable Agarwood industry in Tripura, the first-ever buyer-seller two-day meet is being organized at Agartala in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) from Tuesday.

Virtually addressing at the program, Union Commerce minister Pijush Goyal praised Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb for initiating measures on sustainable development of livelihood through rubber plantation and handloom & handicrafts to boost the state’s economy. “It is indeed a good initiative taken by Tripura CM which is highly appreciable and this will escalate the lifestyle of people engaged with these sectors in the coming years”, he added.

Goyal added ” Modiji called me and union Environment minister Bhupendra Yadav to examine the matters and aid the Tripura government. I believe Tripura can become the capital of Agar in the entire world”.

Union Commerce minister also asked the government led by Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb to share the facts and figures of Agarwood plantation and cultivation, and requirements, so that the respective ministries can extend support to the government. “There is a bright future of Agarwood by increasing farming and lead towards becoming Atmanirbhar Bharat”, he added.

Goyal also urged the government to focus on sustainable development as it is also a responsibility.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Deb said “Without any kind of movement, or rallies, the state government has focused significantly on the development of Agarwood sector. Previously, several deputations were given to the then government, but no attention was given to boost up this sector. The present state government is focusing on the overall development of the state by making people self-reliant as part of the clarion call ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ by Prime Minister Modi”.

He also criticized the previous governments in Tripura for never having an intention to make people economically well to do by showing the path towards self-reliance.
