On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, the Tourism Department in collaboration with Mizoram Cycling Association organized a Cycling Competition – Tour de Hmuifang.
The event was flagged-off from Mualpui Zero Point by Tourism, Sports & ICT Development Vice-Chairman, Pu TC Pachhunga.
During times, when COVID-19 pandemic has severely hit the tourism industry, events such as – Tour de Hmuifang could help promote tourism in the state, stated Pachhunga.
A total of 72 cyclists from Aizawl, Lunglei, Kolasib, Champhai, Serchhip and Saitual Districts participated in the event.
The competition was organized in two categories – ‘Below 35 Years’ and ‘Above 35 Years’.
In ‘Below 35 Years’ Category : Mesak Vanlalvena of Sihfa covered the 53 kms trip in 2 hours 14 minutes breaking his own previous record of 2 hours 20 minutes, a record that bagged him the winner title in 2020.
Malsawmkima of Chhippir covered the trip in 2 hours 23 minutes that bagged him the second position. While, the third position went to Lalruatfela of Bawngkawn with a timing of 2:25 hours.
In ‘Above 35 Years’ Category : Lallawmsanga of Mission Veng clocked the trip in 2 hours 35 minutes and clinched the first position.
David Rualzakhuma of Saron Veng, covered the trip within a timing of 2 hours 42 minutes, that earned him the second position.
While, R Lalhmachhuana of Champhai stood third with a timing of 2 hours 47 minutes.
According to reports, 52-year-old Dr Malsawmkima, was the oldest competitor while 12-year-old Lalramluahpuia Zote was the youngest participant.
The Tourism Minister Pu Robert Romawia Royte earlier announced that Tour de Hmuifang would be held annually to further promote, restore and re-activate the sector, while protecting jobs and businesses.
