The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) on Sunday demanded the Meghalaya Government of constituting an independent commission to probe financial crisis faced across the state.

HYC president Robert June Kharjahrin asserted that proposed commission will forward recommendations to enhance the revenue generation.

He further highlighted that state cannot always go with a “begging bowl” to Delhi, thereby pointing out the fact that Meghalaya Government faces difficulties in releasing funds for teachers, construct roads, schools & hospitals.

Kharjahrin further claimed that state government faces such issues due to revenue leakages at different levels, and failing to curb such illegal activities.

“The state also needs a strong vigilance committee right from the village level to allow the citizens to be part and parcel on the growth and developmental initiatives of the government,” – added the HYC President.

According to a statement issued by the council, state government must undertake stringent actions to deal with corruption, and suggested the concerned authorities to constitute a strong vigilance committee right from the village level.
