Sikkim lad Devendra Basnet clinched the silver medal in the recently concluded 30th edition of National Men & Women Equipped & Classic Bench Press Championship 2021 held at Goa.
Devendra who clinched the silver medal in the master’s category represented the northeastern state of Sikkim as part of the 15-member team of Sikkim Powerlifting Association (SPA).
Addressing the mediapersons, Devendra informed that more than 1,600 athletes had participated in the championship.
“To win a medal for the State in such a competitive national championship is a matter of pride for me and I am thankful to SPA for their constant support” – asserted Devendra.
However, the state team’s assistant coach, Sonam Karthak informed that Sikkim is gearing-up to participate in the forthcoming national powerlifting championship, which is scheduled to be held on February 2022 in Kerala.
Karthak mentioned that interested athletes can attend the selection trials for state team in December after which they will conduct a training camp.
