Sikkim : Soreng Gearing-Up To Host ’18th State Boxing Championship 2021′

Soreng is gearing-up to host the upcoming 18th State Boxing Championship 2021. A preparatory meeting regarding the same was held recently at the Soreng community hall, as informed by an IPR release.

Chaired by MLA Aditya Golay, a technical report was presented by West District Boxing Association General Secretary Paru Hang Subba, adding that the championship will incorporate of three categories, namely – junior (15 to 16 years of age), youth (17 to 18 years) and senior (19 to 40 years) with all three categories having men’s and women’s events.

These gold medalists will have the golden opportunity to represent Sikkim at the national level.

Meanwhile, Subba has also put forth all the details regarding the necessities including required funds.

The meeting also discussed about several issues, associated with the event, such as – formation of proper coordinating committee, tournament venue, transportation, lodging for players, etc.

Besides, the Sports joint director R.B. Bishwakarma also briefed about the newly-formed State Sports Academy for Girls (SSAG) at Soreng.

The main objective is to encourage sports amongst youth.

He also informed that since its registration, the academy has seen steady growth in the number of athletes, particularly in football.

“We need to take this as an opportunity to broaden our horizons and support the young talents in choosing an unorthodox career in sports.” – urged the Deputy Commissioner Karma Bonpo.
