Concern Over Hike In Prices Of Construction Materials In Tripura, CM Issues Warning To Commercial Traders

In view of abrupt hike in the rates of construction materials, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb issued a warning to the commercial traders operating across the state, adding that some unscrupulous traders have pushed the prices, leading to citizens facing its grave repercussions.

Instructions were given to all the District Magistrates (DMs) of eight districts in Tripura for initiating immediate actions if any such complaints of the price hike are lodged.

In a program at Sabroom of South Tripura district, Tripura CM said “Strict action will be taken if any attempt is made to artificially increase the price of essential materials used in this work, given the opportunity to build houses on a large scale in the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana”.

“All district magistrates have already been directed to take necessary action in case of such complaints”, he added.

Certain complaints were received by BJP leadership and administrative officials along few parts of Tripura that common masses benefited through the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) are being charged extra.

It is alleged that a section of businessmen and traders are trying to achieve unhealthy profits from the beneficiaries as well as common masses after the funds were sent by the central government.

It is worthy to mention here that Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially released the first installment of Rs 709.46 crore among 1,47,805 beneficiaries on November 14.
