Menla Ethenpa have been elected unopposed as the President of Sikkim’s apex football body – Sikkim Football Association (SFA).

Elected unopposed for the second term, Ethenpa will now serve as the President of Sikkim’s apex football body till 2025.

The result was declared by SFA Election Commission headed by R. Ongmu, during its annual General Meeting.

However, other members of the executive committee will be constituted at a later stage.

Its worthy to note that Ethenpa also holds the post of senior vice president of North East Football Development Council.

A significant member of the Football Development Committee of All India Football Federation, New Delhi, Ethenpa has already served the All India Football Federation (AIFF) as its Deputy Chairman, Competition Committee.

The major obstacle ahead this journey lies into reviving the football culture across the tiny Himalayan northeastern state.

Recently, SFA had shared their grievances of not been able to organize home league-matches, due to the scarcity of funds.

Therefore, the revival of football & Club culture is significant for encouraging the sport in the state.

Furthermore, the ‘Face of Indian Football’ Bhaichung Bhutia, also serving as Advisor to SFA shared ‘what we need is little financial help from All India Football Federation and State government to run Sikkim Football Association in a smooth way and to strengthen league system in Sikkim’.
