Subansiri Lower Hydropower Project’s First Unit To Start Generation From August 2022 : Arunachal Pradesh Deputy CM

The Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister – Chowna Mein informed that work for the 500 MW first unit of the 2,000 MW capacity Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project will be completed by August 2022.

Commissioned by the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC), this project located along the inter-state border of Arunachal Pradesh & Assam, is the biggest hydroelectric project undertaken in India so far and is a run of river scheme on river Subansiri.

This was apprised during a meeting held on Sunday with the Chief & Managing Director (CMD) of NHPC – Abhay Kumar Singh.

Mein on Sunday visited the NHPC Subansiri Lower Hydro electric Project (2000MW) to inaugurate the start of the main inlet valve assembly of the project on behalf of Chief Minister Pema Khandu, who could not arrive for the event due to inclement weather in Tawang.

During the visit, Mein also inspected and took stock of the work progress in the project site. He was accompanied by Agriculture Minister – Tage Taki; Advisor to Department of Power Balo Raja; MLA Likabali Kardo Nyigyor; MLA Raga Tarin Dakpe; Commissioner of Hydropower P. S Lokhande; CMD NHPC A.K. Singh; Secretary of Power Sang Phuntsok; and Chief Engineer  (Monitoring) R.K. Joshi.

Taking to Twitter, Mein informed “Had a very productive meeting with CMD @nhpcltd. I am glad to learn that the work for 500 MW will be completed by August 2022.

“Today during my visit to NHPC’s Subansiri Lower HE Project (2000MW), I on behalf of the Hon’ble CM Pema Khandu Ji inaugurated the start of the Main Inlet Valve Assembly of the project. Also inspected and took the status of the work progress at the site with CMD @nhpcltd AK Singh.” – he further added.

Meanwhile, in order to provide employment opportunities to youth, the Arunachal Pradesh Government in collaboration with NHPC would provide specific skills to youngsters at Industrial Training Institute (ITI) Roing, Lower Dibang Valley district so that they can be easily be employed the moment the work on hydropower project commences. 

Such programmes will be taken-up at one ITI in every river basin with Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSUs) in phased manner.

Govt of Arunachal Pradesh in partnership with @nhpcltd would provide specific skills to our youths at ITI Roing so that they can be easily be employed the moment the work on hydropower project commences.
