The Ashfaqullah Khan Zoo in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh will get two rhinos from the Assam State Zoo of Guwahati, which are likely to reach the Zoological Garden today after covering a distance of around 1,250 kms.
This pair of rhinos (one male and one female) both 5-yrs-old had begun their journey on Monday morning.
Once they are here, they will be kept in quarantine for a few days before being allowed to be seen by wildlife lovers.
According to PTI report, a seven-member team from the UP Zoo, including wildlife specialist Dr Yogesh Singh, had reached Assam on Friday to facilitate the process, followed by Raja Mohan, who reached there on Sunday.
The rhinos will have their own enclosure at the zoo, and their health will be examined on a regular basis during the quarantine period; informed a zoo official.
Its worthy to note that officials also met the Chief Minister of Assam – Himanta Biswa Sarma led by the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) Wildlife, Assam – MK Yadav and expressed his gratitude on behalf of the UP government for the two rhinos. Meanwhile, Sarma received a keepsake in the form of an effigy of the state wildlife of Uttar Pradesh – Barasingha.
This meeting was also attended by Dr H Raja Mohan, Dr Yogesh Pratap Singh, Veterinary Doctor of the Zoological Park.
According to experts, the arrival of these two rhinos, will enhance the significance and attraction of Gorakhpur Zoological Park.
