Sikkim : Movie Themed On Gorkhaland Agitation – ‘Broken Wings’ To Premiere In Gangtok

The first Nepali-Hindi feature film ‘Broken Wings’ is all set to get premiered at the Vajra Cinema Hall in Gangtok on April 29. On the same day, it will be released in theatres all throughout India. In Nepal, the film is scheduled to premiere in May.

The film is based on true events, which depicts the Gorkhaland agitation during 1988 & 1992 in the Darjeeling Hills.

Directed by Darjeeling-based filmmaker – Shenpenn Khymsar, this film is produced under the banner of Monk and The Warrior Productions.

Twenty-year-old Endo Mrinal from Kurseong is the lead male character in the film. Noted Bollywood actor Vinay Pathak plays the role of Darjeeling district magistrate of that period while upcoming actor Sonakshi Grover is the lead female character.

According to the filmmaker, the gala premiere will be held in Gangtok, since Vajra Cinema Hall is a brand-new theatre with a 70 mm screen, which is rare in India.

“Sikkim has established a Film Promotion Board and is developing a film city. Sikkim will see a boom in film tourism, and by staging the gala premiere here, I hope to inspire the people of Sikkim with Broken Wings, as Sikkim is near and dear to my heart “- he declared.
