Agartala, May 24, 2022 : Tripura’s former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on Tuesday urged the leaders, workers and supporters of Centre of Indian Trade Union (CITU) to constitute a fight against the government in an intensive and sharp manner as the entire country is undergoing a worse situation.

Sarkar attended a voluntary blood donation camp this morning organized by the CITU state committee prior to their state conference scheduled to hold on May 28 and 29 next here in Agartala city. Tripura CITU president and former Transport minister Manik Dey, general secretary and former MP Sankar Prasad Datta accompanied Sarkar in the blood donation camp.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the blood donation camp organized at Chhatra-Yuva Bhavan here in Agartala on Tuesday morning, former CM said “There is nothing as such to separate blood donation camps from the demands and movements for increase daily wage, close down privatization, stop dismissal from jobs, etc. The government is doing nothing whereas there is a crisis of blood in the blood banks. I had talked with the doctor. The medical officer said that they had come to collect blood from 100 people which depicts the picture that there is acute shortage of blood in the blood banks.”

“During our regime, the doctors and healthcare staff never demanded 100 blood donors, rather they used to tell us where we keep extra volume of blood. From this, it is crystal clear that the blood banks are suffering presently”, he added.

Citing the awful situation of the nation, Sarkar said “I would request the CITU friends to continue blood donation camps, but the fight against the government will become intense and sharp as the situation of the entire country is very bad. They are here donating blood to save the dying people and a few capitalists and corporates are squeezing their blood by shaking hands with communal forces. To safeguard their interest, the BJP-led governments are running across the country and RSS is guiding from them from the back.”

He stressed “In the coming days, blood donation camps will continue, but CITU has to battle for the class struggle, fight against capitalism, fight to create a free society, etc. in the coming days. The union’s leadership roles need to be nurtured in a more organized manner.”
