In a major boost to significantly boost power generation and shift towards cleaner energy forms, the Assam Chief Minister – Himanta Biswa Sarma today inaugurated the ’25-MW Boko Solar Park’ at Bhalukghata in Boko, Kamrup district.
The inaugural ceremony was held in presence of State’s Minister of Power, Corporation, Mines & Minerals, Indigenous & Tribal Faith and Culture Department – Nandita Gorlosa; Minister of Environment & Forests, Act East Policy Affairs, Welfare of Minorities Department & Guardian Minister of Kamrup – Chandra Mohan Patowary; MP – Queen Oja; MLA – Nandita Das.
“The project will lead to enhanced solar power generation, employment opportunities, check environmental degradation and augmentation of power generation capacity in Assam,” – stated the CM.
The state administration has been undertaking proactive measures to set-up solar projects across various parts of the state; and within the coming years aims to shift towards non-conventional energy sources.
Taking to Twitter, Sarma wrote “Happy to inaugurate 25-MW Boko Solar Park at Bhalukghata, Boko in Kamrup district. The project will lead to enhanced solar power generation, employment opportunities, check environmental degradation and augmentation of power generation capacity in Assam.”
“We are taking proactive steps to set up solar projects in various parts of the State. In the coming years, we plan to shift towards non-conventional energy sources.” – he further added.
Its worthy to note that Sarma on Tuesday mentioned that the state is looking at meeting 50 per cent of its power demand through solar energy within the next four years, i.e., by 2026.
He said the state will be soon generate a total of 215 MW solar power with plans afoot to increase the capacity over the next few years.
Sarma remarked the same, after inaugurating a 25-MW solar plant at Lalpul in Udalguri district on Tuesday.
