Commemorating the 26 years of ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas’, the 8th Serchhip Battalion of Assam Rifles today conducted an awareness lecture on significant facts of Indian Army under the theme ‘Know your Army’ at Khankawn village.
This awareness lecture aimed to raise awareness on Armed Forces among the villagers, and informed them about sacrifice and contributions made by the heroes of Indian Army.
The villagers were informed on various avenues and procedures to join the Indian Army and in order to choose this honourable profession along the three branches of the Defence Forces.
Meanwhile, the 3rd Lunglei Battalion of Assam Rifles also conducted events like – “Poster-cum-Painting Competition” for students of Assam Rifles Public School on the theme of Vijay Diwas, and 37 students participated in the event.
During the competition, students were briefed about Kargil War, which was fought between India and Pakistan from May to July 1999 in the Kargil district of Jammu and Kashmir along the Line of Control (LOC).
The students were enlightened on the bravery and sacrifices made by the soldiers of the Indian Army, who fought the Pakistani invaders in in the harsh terrain and unfavourable weather conditions of Kargil, Dras and Batalik Sub Sectors in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K).
